The exclusive license marks a significant milestone for the establishment of Green Therma’s demonstration project in Aalborg. The project will showcase Heat4Ever™ — a new generation of closed-loop geothermal technology, which will supply heat directly to the district heating network.
Unlike conventional geothermal systems, which rely on naturally occurring hot groundwater, Heat4Ever™ is a fully closed-loop system that harnesses the Earth’s natural heat. By eliminating the dependence on specific geological conditions, the technology significantly expands the potential for geothermal heating in locations where traditional geothermal solutions are not feasible. The project is being developed in partnership with Aalborg Forsyning, which has entered into a 30-year agreement to purchase the heat produced.
“This license enables us to demonstrate a new way of harnessing geothermal energy. With Heat4Ever™, we capture the Earth’s natural heat in a completely closed-loop system. This eliminates many of the geological risks and constraints associated with conventional geothermal energy, making geothermal heating a viable solution in many more locations,” says Jørgen Peter Rasmussen, CEO and Founder of Green Therma.
We would like to thank the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities, the Danish Energy Agency, and the Danish Parliament’s Climate, Energy and Utilities Committee for their careful consideration of our application. We look forward to advancing the project in close collaboration with Aalborg Forsyning and our other project partners.
The demonstration project has received DKK 84 million in funding from the Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Program (EUDP). The project partners are Aalborg Forsyning, GEUS, Aalborg University, Aarhus University, and Energy Cluster Denmark.
