Green Therma, a company with an innovative technology solution within renewable geothermal energy, collaborates with Aalborg Forsyning to establish the first Heat4Ever project. The project is expected to begin in 2025 with completion in 2027 at the latest. The plant’s prospective location is currently being investigated, and the collaborators will provide updates on the matter as the project unfolds.
Aalborg Forsyning partakes in the project with the wish to actively contribute to testing, developing, and growing green technologies of the future. The plan is for Aalborg Forsyning to receive the extracted heat, whilst Green Therma invests, establishes, and drives the plant. The demonstration plant has an estimated capacity of around 2 MW. The amount makes up only a small part of Aalborg Forsyning’s total energy need. However, the project’s purpose is primarily to test the solution and explore whether the new technology can be part of Denmark’s future district heating.
Green Therma’s Heat4Ever solution is distinguishable from conventional geothermic solutions. The solution uses the patented DualVac technology which has the potential to extract the vast amount of heat from within the earth, without significant heat loss. Heat4Ever is a closed-loop system in which water circulates within the well and exchanges its heat with the district heating. This means that the heat extraction is done without the same geological limitations (e.g. the demand for quality and temperature of the geological formation water as well as permeability and porosity) as we know it from conventional geothermal facilities. The technology is further distinguishable in that it needs just one well and not two, and the solution’s expected longevity is significantly longer.
To complete the project, Green Therma collaborates with some of the world’s leading companies within drilling, well completion, and installation of surface facilities. These partners – alongside Green Therma’s technology and Aalborg Forsyning’s wish to implement green solutions for district heating – provide optimal conditions for a successful outcome. The project will cost +100 DKK, and the funding is expected to rely on a combination of public support and investment from Green Therma.
Søren Gais Kjeldsen, managing director of Aalborg Forsyning, says: “Aalborg Forsyning is working hard on the green transition of our district heating production, and we want to also actively take responsibility for society’s green transition by contributing to the testing, development, and implementation of green technologies. The collaboration with Green Therma comes naturally because we get to test and demonstrate their geothermal plant which represents a more environmentally friendly employment of the earth’s heat.”
Jørgen Peter Rasmussen, CEO of Green Therma, adds: “We are happy to perform Heat4Ever together with Aalborg Forsyning as part of their goal to find green solutions to use for the production of district heating. Our solution is very promising, and it represents a major opportunity for district heating companies and others – nationally and globally – who aim to have renewable energy production from the core of the earth without CO2 emissions.”
Green Therma and Aalborg Forsyning alike look forward to working together on the project. For more information and updates about Heat4Ever, visit www.greentherma.com or contact Green Therma’s CEO Jørgen Peter Rasmussen.
About Green Therma:
Green Therma was founded in 2023 with the aim to revolutionize geothermal energy. Our dedication to renewable energy and technological innovation is incarnated in our groundbreaking geothermal technology and unique Heat4Ever solution. We are on a mission to offer competitive, reliable, and renewable heat, with a minimal environmental footprint and virtually no CO2 emissions. That is real, green energy.
By using a single, deep, and horizontal well, we can efficiently utilize earth’s heat within a closed-loop system. We utilize the patented DualVac technology which optimizes energy production in a safe, emission-free, and environmentally friendly solution designed to last for decades. For that reason, we call our solution Heat4Ever.
About Aalborg Forsyning:
Aalborg Forsyning is Denmark’s second-largest municipality-owned multi-supply company. With more than 500 employees, every day is spent delivering heat, gas, cooling, and clean water to customers and managing rainwater and wastewater. Aalborg Forsyning is currently undergoing an ambitious, green transition of the heat supply and is part of both private and public partnerships with innovation, development, and testing as the focus. This manifests e.g. in the industrial area Norbis Park, where Aalborg dedicates the current years to building and testing new technologies to create future-proof supply.
