The agreement advances preparations for what will be Denmark’s deepest and longest geothermal well and brings the Aalborg Heat4Ever™ demonstration project closer to drilling.
Green Therma has awarded the drilling rig contract for the Aalborg Heat4Ever™ demonstration project to Helmerich & Payne (H&P), the world’s largest onshore drilling contractor, with Rig T203 selected to drill the project’s geothermal well.
The well is planned to reach approximately 4 km vertical depth, followed by a horizontal section of around 3 km, making it both the deepest and longest geothermal well to be drilled in Denmark. Spudding is targeted for January 2027.
Developed in collaboration with Aalborg Forsyning as heat off-taker and supported by Denmark’s Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Program (EUDP), the project will demonstrate Heat4Ever™ technology and pave the way for 30 years of geothermal district heating for delivery to Aalborg, Denmark. The agreement represents an important step toward executing one of Europe’s most ambitious deep geothermal demonstration projects and reflects Green Therma’s ambition to bring a scalable and commercially viable geothermal solution into full-scale deployment.

H&P will provide Rig T203, together with its experienced drilling team and operational expertise, to safely execute the well.

Delivering this well safely, on time, and on budget will be about much more than just one project. It will demonstrate to the European district heating industry that Heat4Ever™ is in action: an industrial, highly efficient deep geothermal heat solution designed to reduce risk, decarbonize heat production, and deliver reliable renewable heat for decades. We look forward to working with H&P and taking the project to spud in January 2027.
