Green Therma and Stadtwerke Wismar sign Letter of Intent to explore geothermal district heating

Green Therma ApS and Stadtwerke Wismar GmbH have signed a Letter of Intent to jointly assess the potential for deploying a geothermal heating solution in Wismar, Germany.

The collaboration will explore how Green Therma’s Heat4Ever™ closed-loop technology can be integrated into the local district heating network, supporting Stadtwerke Wismar’s ambition to decarbonize heat supply and diversify energy sources.

The project will follow a structured, stepwise approach, beginning with a pre-feasibility study including geological screening, technical evaluation, and an initial economic assessment. Subject to positive results, the parties will consider progressing to a full feasibility study and further project development.

“Utilities are looking for reliable and scalable solutions to decarbonize district heating. With Stadtwerke Wismar, we are taking a structured approach to integrating our Heat4Ever™ technology into existing heat networks and enabling reliable, low-carbon heat supply,” says Jørgen Peter Rasmussen, CEO of Green Therma.

“We are committed to transforming Wismar’s heat supply towards a more sustainable and future-proof system. This collaboration allows us to assess how geothermal energy can become a reliable and long-term component of our district heating network,” says Uwe Rühleman, Geschäftsführer of Stadtwerke Wismar.

The collaboration could form the basis for a future geothermal heating project that contributes to a more sustainable and resilient heat supply in Wismar.
